Welcome! This website is created for my project on Speaking of Desire from Deborah L. Tolman’s book entitled “Dilemmas of Desire: Teenage Girls Talk about Sexuality.” This project is for WGST 4130-001. The goal of this project is creating a way to work on eliminating the dilemma of desire for teenage girls. I will be discussing the importance of girls being able to speak with women and be encouraged by them, as Tolman discusses in the book. I selected the example of Rosie Molinary’s Book entitled “Beautiful You: A Daily Guide to Radical Self-Acceptance” because it starts the important conversation of self acceptance in all aspects of girls’ lives, including sexuality and desire,¬†between girls and adults in their lives. This conversation will help girls feel more comfortable in their skin, as well as acknowledge that girls have sexual desires and needs that need to be addressed, not hidden away. The result of these conversations will be girls who are freely and completely themselves, embracing every aspect of themselves, including their desires, sexuality and body image. Please check out the blog for more information about Rosie Molinary’s book and the connections between the two topics.
